Catecar SA is a Swiss company that acquired exclusive producing and selling rights on MDI cars in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Its headquarters are in Pleigne (Canton of Jura).
Catecar SA is therefore the Swiss and Lichtenstein exclusive licencee of the French company MDI which has developed the compressed air engine technology invented by its CEO, French engineer Guy Negre.
The Swiss plant will be set up in 2009 and production will start in early 2010.
The site’s location is not definitive yet but in principle should be in the Canton of Jura. A purchase option on a plot of 17′000 sqm located in Courgenay has already be signed. Other alternatives are being examined.
The plant is made of workshops (4′000 sqm) as well as offices and storage space (1′000 sqm). A 12′000 sqm field is necessary.
Around one hundred jobs will be created and local unemployed will be given priority. Production techniques (molds, paints, mechanical assembly) are perfectly mastered.
80% of the value of vehicles is produced by the plant itself, only 20% being acquired from other manufacturers for parts such as steering wheels, wheels, tires, etc…
To produce locally to sell locally : such is the business model of MDI car plants. Only cars which have already been sold are built (no dead stock costs) and the cars are usually delivered to customers at the factory (no logistic and no concessionary costs), but in special cases.
From a social, environmental and financial point of view, this industrial model is the most efficient and meets perfectly today’s sustainability requirements.
